Sumeco’s Environmental Policy
Introduction and aim
Sumeco SA is an international import and export company whose main business is processing and supplying oily seeds, spices and herbs, and other special crops. We recognise that our operations result in emissions to air and water and the generation of waste. It is our aim to comply with legal and other requirements, continue to reduce the environmental impact of our business and operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This policy document describes how we will achieve our aims.
Responsibility
Sumeco’s environmental policy applies to all of our operations, including management, office services, printing, delivery and procurement. Managing Director Safak Mumcular is responsible for ensuring that the policy is implemented but all employees have a responsibility in their own particular area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
Resources
We will ensure that resources are available to enable us to achieve our objectives and targets.
Objectives
During 2011 and 2013, we aim to work continuously to:
- reduce pesticides, artificial fertilisers and chemicals used in the cultivation and harvesting of our products
- reduce emissions from engines, vehicles and transportation
- avoid using GMO products
- optimise and minimise global transportation
- reduce generation of general and hazardous (special) waste
- inform all customers and suppliers of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
Targets
To achieve our aims, we have set ourselves the following targets:
- inform all customers and suppliers about our environmental policy by August 2011 and thereafter all new customers and suppliers
- define good housekeeping for chemicals in use, ensure all employees receive training in good housekeeping by Q2 2012 and incorporate this training into the induction programme for new starters
- introduce a fertiliser management system to avoid any over-fertilisation by Q1 2012
- evaluate the costs and benefits of optimising global transportation by Q4 2012.
Monitoring and auditing
Progress towards these objectives will be monitored through quarterly management meetings.
